The figures represent Robert Fitzroy, Gilbert de Clare II, Hugh Dispenser, and Robert Fitzhamon. Robert Fitzhamon was the founder of the Abbey, and Hugh Dispenser was the favourite of Edward II. Hugh Dispenser was hung, drawn, quartered, castrated, and beheaded in Hereford market place on the 24th November 1326.
This stained glass was installed in Tewkesbury Abbey between 1340 - 1346 by Hugh Dispenser's wife Eleanor de Clare. |
